There is no denying that in 2020, there are many worthy causes to support. Setting up a nonprofit to help people is a noble idea and one way that enables them to do good and spread some kindness in the world. However, nonprofit organizations can face many challenges when it comes to being successful in what they do and being able to continue with the excellent work they do.

Some issues are not reserved solely for the nonprofit sector and are common in all industries. However, being a nonprofit organization adds an extra layer of difficulty to an already hard situation.

Visibility

It may seem like everyone is fighting for a piece of the same pie. In some ways, everyone in the nonprofit sector is. Making sure you are focussing on reaching the right people and getting the word out about what you do is vital to your organization. Marketing, social media, and nonprofit search engine optimization will all help you reach your goal in spreading the word. Part luck – for creating viral content that is successful and benefits rather than harms your nonprofit, part skill – creating content that will  rank in search engine results and part enthusiasm – using your passion for enticing others to your cause. These are all the required ingredients to help you get on your way to boosting the visibility of your nonprofit on and offline.

Funding

Another big challenge faced by nonprofit organizations is funding or lack thereof. With budget cuts, there are limited resources for financial help at state or federal levels meaning that anything that is offered is more of a safety net rather than practical financial assistance. Relying heavily on donations and fundraising is always tricky, especially amid a global pandemic such as COVID-19.

Attracting the Right People to Come On Board

With limited resources, nonprofits who are struggling tend not to be able to attract the kind of people they need to help them out. Many people work with nonprofits as they are passionate about the cause and want to do good. However, being able to retain such people can prove tricky without a reliable income stream and the ability to do everything you want to do and more. Situations such as this will be detrimental to others who may be more to different organizations to carry out what they want to do.

Another issue to bear in mind is that with limited resources, you will need to or require others to wear many hats. Not being able to afford to employ all the team members you need to perform specific roles will lead to you being overstretched and taking on tasks you are not comfortable with or qualified to do. Extra pressure on everyone will lead to further issues when it comes to retaining the right people for your nonprofit, and being able to undertake the work you want to do with limited staff and resources.
