Do you have a ton to say on any given topic, and are you able to deliver this in a confident and clear way? Maybe you’ve always dreamt of setting up a podcast, but have always thought that it was too complicated, or that it should be left to the professionals.
Setting up a podcast is a lot easier that you might have imagined. With podcast, there are possibilities. You can very easily run one from the comfort of your home, and still manage to reach a substantial amount of listeners.
Decide On Your Niche
You will need to pick an area that you are going to market your podcast towards. Think about who your listeners are, and what they want to hear.
It could be all talk- meaning you have guests, features, documentaries, or potentially radio drama.
Pick A Name
Your podcast brand is important, it will be the thing that people first see when they come across you online, and it needs to jump out and sell itself.
Make sure your chosen name has not already been taken. You can do this by doing a google search, and checking the records of companies listed in your country.
The Right Tools For The Job
An essential item that you will need is a computer with online radio software or podcasting software installed. You’ll need to get a decent microphone, assuming you plan on speaking at some point. You can buy USB microphones that will plug directly into your computer. Get yourself a set of headphones, and then you are good to go.
If you want to get a more sophisticated set up, you can buy a mixing desk too so that you can fade music, and turn channels up and down.
Promoting Your Station
You’ll need to bring all of your listeners to your station. You should develop a strong social media presence around the radio station. Use the station to promote the social media accounts too, as once people are following you, they may well share your posts and extend your reach.
Advertising
Getting a revenue stream from your radio station is an ideal scenario. You can earn from what you love doing. You will need to build up to a reasonable amount of listeners, and then you can include adverts within your content.
If you’re talking on your shows, you may want to invite the possibility of affiliate marketing as a means of monetization. You can earn money by talking listeners through some products or services.
