Sometimes in the life of a startup, you will get to a point where you need to up and move. This can happen for a huge number of reasons. Often it’s down to a change in business plan, or even something personal that is drawing you and others to a different place. And sometimes, it’s just that there are better market opportunities in another city, and your business is bound to do so much better there. In any case, when you are moving your startup to a new city, there are a few things to consider to ensure you get it right.

If you don’t already have the city in mind, then you will need to first choose the right city for your startup to be in. There are many ways to approach this, but very often it’s about finding one that is going to be suitable for your specific industry needs. There is a theory that going to slightly smaller cities can be a good way to approach it, as you have more opportunities that are less competitive. It’s up to you, but do make sure you thoroughly research anywhere that you intend to move to.

Finding The Right Time

You’ll also need to find the right time to move your business, because it is not always going to be the best time to make this kind of change to the company. For instance, there are certainly some times of year when you are bound to be particularly busy, and those should be avoided at all costs. You should look at your sales from last year to see when that was. The goal is to provide minimal disruption to the startup during the move, and this is the main way that you can hope to achieve that.

Getting Help With Moving

The actual moving process itself is something that you will certainly need help with. There are a few main ways to approach this. You can hire your own staff to help, which is quite a good way of keeping everyone happy while also saving yourself time and money. Or if you want a no-nonsense approach, hiring a cross country mover is a great way to go too. They will be able to move your entire office easily in no time at all, and you’ll find it’s absolutely worth doing that. So consider your options, but do get help in some form.

Hiring New People

Whether to take the old people with you, or hire a completely new team, is up to you. If you want to make sure that you have the best team by your side, then you’ll of course need to consider your options. It might be that you have some people you really don’t want to get rid of, but at the same time there are benefits to hiring locally in the new city too. Nobody can say but you, so think carefully and decide.
