When starting a new business, there are a lot of spinning plates to work around. When you come up with that eureka idea and look to become an entrepreneur there are many things to consider and a lot of ways you could potentially fail.
Today we want to take a look specifically at some of the simple tips you can employ when you start a small business, and how to launch your brand for success in the industry.
Invest in great branding
Branding is so important when you look to start a business. Branding is the key to your business identity and it will be what people see as the face of your startup. When coming up with a great brand there are a few key things to think about:
- Name
- Logo
- Color
Your name needs to be unique but easy to remember. Think Apple, or Microsoft. Your logo needs to be simple but bold – such as the Big Yellow M. And your color scheme needs to match the type of business you are. For example a food business will go for primary colors like red, yellow and blue; a tech company will air toward blue and grey; and a creative media company might go for purple or pink. Consider the impact your color scheme will have on the customer and choose one that suits you. Once you have a brand identity you can really start to launch your project.
Test your ideas
It’s one thing to be stood in the shower and have a brilliant idea for a product; and it’s another to make it work. Lean canvas is a tool that will allow you to test the success of an idea or product and see how it will impact you financially. Testing your ideas before you go in gung-ho is important and it will make a big difference to you overall.
Use free tools
As a small startup the best thing you can do is use free tools to carry out tasks. For example you can use Google Drive to create, edit and store your words and spreadsheets. You can use Buffer to schedule your social media posts; and Canva to create graphic design material. Consider using free tools rather than paying for expensive software and this will reduce your monthly expenses and will also help you to carry out those menial tasks that may otherwise be difficult.
Outsource complex processes
When starting a small business it is important to know that you will not be competent in every part of your business. Entrepreneurs often need some help with finances or marketing or sales aspects of their business and you should always outsource for skills you are lacking. The worst thing you can do is try to do everything yourself and make a big mistake. Be sure to outsource for professional expertise and it will make a big difference to the success of your business.
